Te Matatini is the organisation that celebrates and showcases Kapa Haka excellence in Aotearoa and throughout the world. They organise a significant cultural festival by the same name, Te Matatini which is the pinnacle event for Māori performing arts. With the shift in understanding and recognition of how Kapa Haka contributes to the wellbeing of our diverse communities in Aotearoa, Te Matatini has identified its place as a leader to support the growth and potential of Māori.

Mō te tūranga | About the Role:
The Kapa Haka liaison plays an important role as the national office-based contact for the Kapa Haka festival. As part of this, you will coordinate, liaise, organise, support and administer Kapa Haka events. Your coordination mahi will involve supporting the appointment process of Judges and wānanga tutors including administration and pastoral care. You will be required to input and contribute to planning and reporting.
Working with Te Matatini Enterprises, you will coordinate Kapa Haka Management and APRA Agreements, IP and records management as well as coordinate imagery. You will collate Kapa Haka information, scripts and packs as well as draft performance and stage schedules.
This is a full-time position based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara with some travel required as needed.
Mōu | About You:
As someone who has knowledge and practical experience in event or Kapa Haka development, performance, administration and coordination, you will have the ability to work confidently and professionally with a wide range of stakeholders. You’ll be able to operate within a kaupapa Māori environment and have an understanding and appreciation of tikanga Māori in this context. Because you have a high level of organisational, communication and negotiation skills, you’ll remain calm under pressure and maintain a customer service mindset.
A high level of planning, communication and organisational skills with proven ability to multitask as well as being able to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and professionalism is essential. You’ll have strong skills in the use of Microsoft office including Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Teams.
A working knowledge of Te Matatini and the National Kapa Haka Festival and networks amongst rohe and Kapa Haka would be advantageous.
