About the Role: 

In this role, you will manage several key responsibilities that are integral to the successful function of the Minister's office:
  • Facilitate efficient communication and information flow between the Ministry and the Minister's office, ensuring that all correspondence is handled promptly and adequately.
  • Prepare and manage ministerial correspondence including responses to official inquiries, questions, and briefings required for meetings.
  • Navigate the complexities of parliamentary processes and act as a reliable resource for political staff, ensuring that critical information reaches its intended recipient in a timely manner.
  • Exercise sound judgment in handling complex issues, recognising when to provide advice and when to consult with colleagues at the Ministry for further support.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with other private secretaries, Ministers’ staff, as well as prominent representatives from the public and private sectors, demonstrating exceptional interpersonal skills.

About You: 

You will bring to the role:
  • Extensive experience working within government departments or in Private Secretary roles
  • Exceptional analytical and advisory skills, coupled with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong judgement skills regarding the flow of information and advice, ensuring stakeholders are kept informed appropriately.
  • A good understanding of the politically neutral role of private secretaries and the nuances of working within the parliamentary system.
  • The ability to hold a New Zealand Government National Security Clearance will be required for this position.
